The Lenexa Historical Society (LHS) operates out of the Legler Barn, which is owned and maintained by the City of Lenexa. Inside the barn is a museum dedicated to the city’s history and those who had an impact on it. These items and exhibits are put together, maintained, and collected by LHS.
Outside of the Legler Barn is an Herb Garden and picnic tables – a great place to sit and relax on nice days.
Next to the Legler Barn are two LHS owned buildings – The Frisco Train Depot, which also contains a museum, and the Weidenmann Wait Station, along with a caboose on partial train tracks.
Visitors can go inside of both museums, but are not allowed inside of the wait station or the caboose due to safety reasons, but kids are welcome to climb on to the ends of the outside of the caboose. If you would like to go inside of the train depot, speak with the tour guide at the Legler Barn.
By Rose Pond is a Gazebo designed after the Band Stand that was an important gathering spot in Lenexa’s early days.
Check back for info on each area around the Legler Barn as we continue to develop our new website!
